JJ Abrams Gives STAR WARS Fans A Hand

Another tease from within the Mystery Box.

A few weeks ago I shared with you some plot details from Star Wars Episode VII, one of which involved a lightsaber that is gripped by the severed hand of Luke Skywalker. This set off a firestorm* and now JJ Abrams may have added a little more fuel to it with his latest picture from the set. As you can see above he has revealed a note about the status of the Force For Change fundraising initiative:

Why that's... a robot hand. Is that Luke's hand? Is it the hand of a new droid character? We've never gotten a good look at Luke's hand without the skin on it, so I can't say for sure. What I can say for sure is that Abrams is having a little bit of fun with this.

And congrats to the Force For Change campaign, which has raised five million dollars to fun UNICEF Innovation Labs. These labs work to address issues facing children in the world, like the need for clean water, nutrition and education. According to the official press release the money raised will go towards supporting projects like

MobiStation, a portable, solar-powered educational kit to ensure children have access to quality learning anywhere, and Rapid FTR (Family Tracing and Reunification), a mobile phone application that helps reunite separated and unaccompanied children with their families in natural disasters.

Good for them!

* as did a recent scoop about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice** where I said based on my info - that Batman has been active for decades when the movie opens - I thought he was in his 50s. The internet jumped on the age thing, a bit of speculation, and ignored everything else. This weekend it was revealed he's in his mid-to-late 40s, which feels 'close enough' to me. He's an older Batman. Anyway, the point is that I've learned people will focus on weird little details in these stories and not the overarching information being shared. I don't do a ton of scooping, but this has been very eye-opening and makes me reconsider how I will share info in the future so as to create fewer furors.
