The BATMAN/STAR WARS Social Media War Is A Goddamn Delight
The social media, cross-franchise bromance between Zack Snyder and JJ Abrams is not only tickling my fancy, it's also giving us some actual looks at Star Wars Episode VII stuff, like this new video from JJ that reveals the Millennium Falcon... and the Batmobile!
This video was released as a response to the latest picture Snyder tweeted from the set of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice* following a rumor the Batmobile had been stolen; Snyder's picture showed a Storm Trooper getting arrested for the (fake) crime.
It all started with Snyder, who tweeted a picture of Superman as a Dark Jedi.
Abrams replied with John Boyega as Batman (holding Han Solo's gun).
Round two started with Snyder tweeting a picture of Batman chilling on Tatooine.
Abrams came back with C3P0 as Batman.
I like these for a lot of reasons. For one, the clashing tone deafness of some of these mash-ups is amazing - Superman as a BAD Jedi? 3P0 as Batman??!? I also like how every time one of these is released there are people on Twitter moaning about how these filmmakers should be making their movies, not fooling around like this. I think it's funny when people tell other people how to do their jobs about which they know nothing.
But most of all I just like the sense of fun. I like Zack Snyder, a good time bro who happens to also be a masterful visual storyteller, has goosed JJ Abrams - who, by the way, happens to be a normcore bro who is highly competent at filmmaking. I like that they're basically having an inter-office prank war. I like that at the very least something fun will come from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
