I haven’t seen Studio Ghibli’s The Tale of Princess Kaguya, but the film is playing Fantastic Fest this week and everyone I talk to claims it made them cry cry cry. This leads me to believe the film is kind of sad.
You can see some of that coming through this trailer. More than anything, however, the film’s animation style looks beautiful. So maybe all those tears are just out of awe for Studio Ghibli’s artistry, sort of like how I get when listening to Weird Al.
The Tale of Princess Kaguya opens October 17. The film has a stellar voice cast including Chloe Grace Moretz, James Caan, Oliver Platt, Lucy Liu, Beau Bridges, George Segal, and (huh?) Dean Cain. And it will apparently destroy your soul.
