Will Smith And Jared Leto Officially In SUICIDE SQUAD

The entire cast - and their characters - revealed.

Warner Bros has announced the cast of David Ayer's Suicide Squad, and it's a line-up that's very familiar to those following the rumors lately, one that includes Tom Hardy, Jared Leto and Will Smith. Here's the breakdown:

Jared Leto – The Joker

Will Smith – Deadshot

Tom Hardy – Rick Flagg

Margot Robbie – Harley Quinn

Jai Courtney – Boomerang

Cara Delevingne – Enchantress

Rick Flagg runs Suicide Squad, a group of villains tasked by the US government with impossible missions. If they survive, they get a pardon. It's The Dirty Dozen, basically.

That's gonna be Tom Hardy, and what a great choice he is - I'm excited to see him bouncing off these other actors.

Meanwhile, Will Smith is Deadshot, the world's deadliest assassin. Early reports had him as Captain Boomerang, but Jai Courtney makes more sense as the character is an Aussie. Margot Robbie, as previously reported, will be Harley Quinn, the psychiatrist turned Joker's partner. The Joker, of course, is Jared Leto.

The big shocker: Enchantress. One of the more obscure DC comics characters, Enchantress represents something totally new in the DC movieverse: a magic user. She's an actual magician, casting spells and stuff - at least in the comics. How she'll work in the dark and grounded world of the DC films remains to be seen, but if she is using spells it's the most exciting thing I've seen from these films yet. Cara Delevingne, a fashion model, plays her - continuing Warner Bros' decision to use models instead of more seasoned actors for their films (see Gal Gadot).

“We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under David Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero," said Warner Bros president Greg Silverman in a statement.

This is a good, solid A-list cast, and these are some really interesting and offbeat characters. Forget Batman v Superman, this is the DC movie that has piqued my interest the most.
