The good folks at Mondo are getting into the Christmas spirit this afternoon with a brand-new screenprint based on Home Alone, the most heartwarming home invasion comedy ever made. The print, designed by DKNG, contains a number of easter eggs from Chris Columbus' 1990 film, including Old Man Marley (that's him with the snow shovel on the far right), the doomed statue on the McAllister's front driveway, and the cans of paint Macaulay Culkin adorably sent careening into Joe Pesci's skull during the film's climax. That Mac. Such a rascal.
Home Alone by DKNG / 18x24" screenprint / $40 edition of 275
Here's what DKNG has to say about the print:
When approaching a concept for Home Alone, we knew the interior of the McCallister home and all of Kevin’s tricks to foil the Wet Bandits were likely to be the focus of our design. However, we also wanted to incorporate the exterior of the house and provide a different perspective on some of the movie’s most iconic scenes.
We took some liberties with the architecture of the house and the layout of the property, but in the end the exterior allowed us to include some of our favorite imagery from Home Alone including the Oh-Kay Plumbing van, the perpetually knocked over bronze statue, and off course, Old Man Marley. This poster was an interesting challenge for us as we’ve typically been using two-color printing for this more realistic style. This time around, we stepped up to a four-color design that looks great with the fine halftones blending the colors. The poster is printed on a subtle metallic paper that will give the snow an extra shimmer as well."
Yeesh. All that with only four colors? Impressive. If you've been waiting to put a Home Alone print on your wall, I doubt we'll see a better one this year, so keep your eyes trained to the @MondoNews Twitter feed this morning/afternoon to find out when the print's dropped. I'm recommending this particular bit of Conspicuous Consumerism for '90s kids, Macaulay Culkin enthusiasts and/or your creepy redneck cousin who enjoys setting up vicious booby-traps out in the woods.
