SKULL ISLAND Gets A New Release Date And A Dumb New Name

Shaking my head at you, Mr. Skull Island.

Legendary surprised everyone at Comic-Con this year by announcing a new King Kong-ish movie called Skull Island that would take place in Delaware. No wait, sorry, Skull Island. Since then we’ve learned that the film will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and will star Tom Hiddleston.

And now we know that the movie isn’t actually called Skull Island anymore but rather Kong: Skull Island because otherwise people looking at trailers and posters featuring King Kong might not realize King Kong is in the movie. It could be Lancelot Link for all they know.

In addition to this, Kong: Skull Island (Starring King Kong - Who Lives on Skull Island) now has a new release date: March 10, 2017. It was previously going to come out on November 4, 2016, but everyone knows that’s the date of Mighty Joe Young’s senior prom and it seemed like it might confuse people into thinking they were watching a movie called Kong: Skull Island starring Mighty Joe Young instead of Kong. I am glad it is Friday.
