As Gawker and the trades have gleefully sifted through the hacked Sony emails looking for gossip to drive pageviews the hackers behind the attack have escalated their insanity, and now threaten terrorist attacks on theaters that show The Interview this Christmas. Here's the Babel FIshed message:
We will clearly show it to you at the very time and places “The Interview” be shown, including the premiere, how bitter fate those who seek fun in terror should be doomed to.
Soon all the world will see what an awful movie Sony Pictures Entertainment has made.
The world will be full of fear.
Remember the 11th of September 2001.
We recommend you to keep yourself distant from the places at that time.
(If your house is nearby, you’d better leave.)
Whatever comes in the coming days is called by the greed of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
All the world will denounce the SONY.
Also, they missed the premiere.
All of the debates about the ethics and legality of the Sony hack seem pointless now. These hackers have escalated themselves into actual terrorists, and while i doubt they'll actually do anything I do hope the government takes this really fucking seriously. I am fantasizing about a SEAL team knocking down a hacker's front door.
Hopefully this absurd threat doesn't dissuade people from seeing the film. If anything, I hope Americans take a proper 'Go fuck yourself' attitude and buy plenty of tickets for The Interview just to prove that we won't get pushed around.
