Today we get our first full trailer for Pitch Perfect 2, and it's a little more of what we already knew: the Barden Bellas are entering an international a capella competition, and their very existence as a group depends on their win. Classic sequel territory!
I think Pitch Perfect 2 is going to kill at the box office. This is an easy hook and a funny and exciting trailer, and the first movie certainly won over crowds. Anna Kendrick does a kickass job of leading this terrific cast, and Universal certainly seems to know the treasure they have here, and they're marketing it befittingly. When Pitch Perfect 2 arrives on May 15, I anticipate some seriously sold-out screenings.
I feel a lot of love and weird, affectionate ownership for this little franchise, and I know I'm not alone in that feeling. And it's really wonderful that the sequel, unlike the original, is directed by a woman (Elizabeth Banks) in addition to being written by one (Kay Cannon, who wrote Pitch Perfect based on her book Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory). Who run the world, indeed.
Edit: my mistake - Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory was written by Mickey Rapkin, not Cannon.
