A Short Cop And An Old Lady Run For Their Lives In This HOT PURSUIT Trailer
I spent pretty much all of last night kidnapped by that new SNL 40th Anniversary app (which you should totally look into), which means I missed this trailer for Hot Pursuit, Anne Fletcher’s film where Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara are on the run from generic drug cartel bad guys. So don’t think of this as news but rather a scathing editorial, and try not to investigate the difference because there isn’t any.
As far as I can tell, this looks like Midnight Run, but with way more, way less funny jokes. I’m pre-disappointed because a Midnight Run redo starring Witherspoon and Vergara is all kinds of welcome in my world. Both actresses can do a lot with comedy yet rarely get the chance.
If this movie’s going to rise above mediocrity, however, it’ll have to deliver better jokes than the ones we see here. Some are good - the Jim Gaffigan bit in particular - but most seem like half jokes waiting for that extra oomph to go all the way. To be fair, Midnight Run had the benefit of F-bombs.
And you never know. The action could be decent! Furthermore, Tyler Perry fans should be pleased to see Richard T. Jones, the absolute best actor in the Why Did I Get Married? movies. Could go either way!
Hot Pursuit comes out this May.
