UPDATE: It seems like while The Huntsman will have some prequel sequences it will be, in general, a sequel.
Say what you will about Snow White and the Huntsman, it was bad. And not beloved. Yet here we are, reporting on a new entry in the franchise - and a prequel, at that. Frank Darabont was attached to direct at one point and then he left, so Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who did VFX and second unit work on Snow White and the Huntsman stepped up to make his directorial debut. When Darabont was involved you could maybe convince yourself to care about the project a little, but now...?
This time the movie is about the Huntsman and the Evil Queen before Snow White comes on the scene. That means Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron are back, which is nice even though they could not save the orignal film. Joining them this time is Emily Blunt as the new villain, which definitely makes me more interested. And now today Jessica Chastain has joined the cast as The Huntsman's love interest - which, if this is a prequel, cannot end well for her.
Hemsworth,Theron, Chastain and Blunt? This is a really good cast! But the first movie was so endlessly dull, so dour and unimaginative, that I have zero interest in returning to that universe. I don't need more grey fairy tale movies. Hopefully this one will actually work, because otherwise some of our best actors are wasting months and months of their lives.
By the way - this movie has three awesome women in it and it's called The Huntsman? Get the fuck outta here.
