I’ve said it before and I’ll probably have to say it again, but poor The Crow. This movie has taken some seriously hard knocks, and instead of accepting its fate as a movie that shouldn’t happen, it keeps marching along toward its goal. I kind of admire that.
In the film’s most recent bout of troubles, it lost director F. Javier Gutiérrez. Then actor Luke Evans ran away from the project. After that, crows formed a union and tried to legally force producers to change the film’s name. And we all remember the day God threatened to kill every first born son in Egypt if the remake continued. Luckily he was bluffing, but the stunt severely wounded The Crow on a PR front.
So now, maybe some good news. According to Deadline, Jack Huston, that scarred assassin guy from Boardwalk Empire, is in talks to play the main crow. Now, these are early talks, so there’s still plenty of time for him to walk away from the project or for an anvil to fall on his head. But let's be optimistic.
I wish I had the tenacity and drive seen with this film. We could all learn a lesson in its refusal to die even when faced with absolute apathy. If Jack Huston doesn’t join, they’ll find someone else. If that person drops out, they’ll find yet another person. If you're going through Hell, keep going.
