Studio Ghibli’s WHEN MARNIE WAS THERE Gets An Incredible English-Language Cast
Studio Ghibli’s When Marnie was There came out in Japan last summer and will finally come out over here in May. Since we don’t like reading and won't watch movies in different languages, it will have to be dubbed in English. Normally that’s a drag, but with Studio Ghibli, these things often end up being way better than you’d think. Opinions vary, of course, but if you have to watch these dubbed, you could do way worse.
Now we know the English cast for Marnie, and it’s as great as expected. Hailee Steinfeld will take the lead role, and she’ll be accompanied by the likes of John C. Reilly, Geena Davis, Kathy Bates, Vanessa Williams (hopefully not using her French accent from Tyler Perry’s Temptation), Ellen Burstyn, and Catherine O’Hara. So whether the movie is good or not, it will at least sound great.
When Marnie was There opens May 22 in New York and Los Angeles.
