If you can believe James O’Barr, creator of The Crow, Jack Huston has been confirmed as the lead actor for this crazy film that refuses to all-the-way die until everyone that killed it is dead. O’Barr claimed at the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention Saturday that “Jack Huston has definitely been cast.” He also said that the film “will shoot in a couple of months.”
This new version of The Crow, which will be directed by Corin Hardy, supposedly has intentions to stick a lot closer to the source material. I’ve read the book and seen the old movie and cannot for the life of me remember what the film’s deviations were. Both are about a dead guy who comes back to life as a magical mime to kill his killers. There’s not a lot more to it than that.
However different this film ends up being, I still have a problem getting interested in invincible movie heroes. Yes, I know that if you hurt the guy’s crow spirit guide or whatever it is, that hurts him. But it doesn’t really hurt him hurt him. I’ve only read a few of these Crow stories. Did O’Barr ever write one where the bad guys actually kill the magical mime and go on living their evil lives? I’d be interested in checking that out.
