Stanley Film Festival Announces Their Lineup - And We’re Co-Hosting A Filmmaking Frenzy!

Win a two-night stay in the room where Stephen King dreamt up THE SHINING.

We are thrilled to partner with the Stanley Film Festival this year, the horror festival that takes place in the famed Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado - the inspiration for Stephen King's Overlook Hotel in The Shining.

The festival announced their incredible lineup today: new titles include such great films as The Final GirlsWe Are Still Here, The Nightmare, Karyn Kusama's The InvitationWhen Animals Dream, the world premiere of the absolutely terrific Some Kind of Hate Movie, starring our own Noah Segan, Austrian maternal horror Goodnight Mommy, Irish monster picture The Hallow, New Zealand metal horror Deathgasm and SXSW standout The Boy

AND there will be some great repertory screenings, as well. Stuart Gordon and Barbara Crampton are both attending in celebration of a screening of Re-Animator, and there will be showings of DiaboliqueShiversRocky Horror and Repulsion

All of that is crazy exciting, and even more so (to us): we're hosting the Saturday night party. Devin, April Swartz and I will all be in attendance, as will our Sponsorship Director Corey Wilson, so you guys should come and hang out!

AND HERE'S THE BEST PART: we're launching a Filmmaking Frenzy contest in conjunction with the Stanley! Make a short ghost film, have it play in the hotel room televisions during the festival, and you can win a two-night stay in Room 217, the haunted room where Stephen King conceived of The Shining (changed to Room 237 in Kubrick's movie).

Here's a little more about the Frenzy from Devin:

Before it inspired Stephen King to write THE SHINING, the historic Stanley Hotel was already a reputed hotspot for ghosts and things that go bump in the night. BIRTH.MOVIES.DEATH and the Stanley Film Festival are joining forces to celebrate the spectral with a Filmmaking Frenzy that challenges you to bring us your best ghost story in five minutes or less.

Every year the Stanley Film Festival brings together the best macabre movies to screen over one frightening weekend in Estes Park, Colorado. This year they want your short film to be a part of the fun - all of the shorts submitted to this Filmmaking Frenzy will be played on the dedicated Stanley Film Festival in-room channel available to everybody staying in the historic Stanley Hotel!

One short will be chosen as the grand winner, and that short will play in front of a major screening during the Stanley Film Festival. But even more importantly, the director of that short will win a two-night stay in Room 217* - the famous haunted room where Stephen King was staying when he had the idea for THE SHINING!

Here’s what you have to do - make a short film that is five minutes or shorter about ‘ghosts.’ That’s your prompt, it’s up to you what to do with it.

Upload your short to YouTube or Vimeo and then enter it here. We’ll open the short up to voting.

Our team will pick four great shorts to enter the finals; the short with the most votes here will also enter the finals. Finally a panel of film industry professionals will pick the final winner from those final five.

The contest is open RIGHT NOW! You have from now until April 23, 11:59 pm CT to get your submission up on the site. The earlier you get up, the more votes you can collect, so get working now!

Happy haunting.
