Kathleen Kennedy: STAR WARS Is For Women Too

The Lucasfilm president acknowledged a lack of female representation in the franchise - and said that's going to change.

They went there. During the big Star Wars: The Force Awakens panel at Star Wars Celebration, moderator Anthony Breznican asked Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy which Star Wars character she would be, and she dropped a truth bomb.

“I don’t have many choices,” she said. “But that’s going to change.”

The crowd went wild. Addressing the kerfuffle over the first cast photo, where only one new female character was added to the mix, Kennedy said:

“Going forward with all we’re talking about there are going to be a lot of wonderful new [female] characters.”

What great news. Kathleen Kennedy is, frankly, a badass - with two daughters. She knows what having new female characters means to the audience - who went totally nuts with that last bit. There are a lot of women in the crowd at Celebration, and you could feel the excitement that they would have more representation in this universe they love.
