It’s Official: Dominic Cooper Will Headline AMC’s PREACHER
Well, looks like the rumors were true: Dominic Cooper (Howard Stark himself) has been cast as Jesse Custer in AMC's Preacher. Seth Rogen - who's adapting Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's long-running Vertigo title with his longtime partner, Evan Goldberg - just confirmed as much on Twitter:
AMC officially picked Preacher up to pilot all the way back in 2013, and in the time since Rogen and Goldberg have been getting the thing written and prepped. Just last month, casting started falling into place: first we learned that Ian Colletti (of FOX's Rake) had been hired to play Aresface, and shortly thereafter Joseph Gilgun (Lockout) and Ruth Negga (Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.) had signed on to play Cassidy and Tulip, respectively. Jesse Custer's the final piece of the puzzle, and the word on the street was that Dominic Cooper was being eyed for the role. Whaddayaknow, the street was right.
Here is a hastily stitched together Photoshop job picturing Preacher's current cast, hovering above their comic book counterparts:
A few more notable characters still need to be cast (The Saint of Killers, for one; Herr Starr for another), but for the most part we now know the basic shape of Preacher's A-team. I'm not sold on Cooper for the role, but then again, I'm not sold on this being a good idea, period, so...how 'bout you guys? You like Cooper for Custer, or not so much?
