This week's episode of The Canon is a little different, as we walk in with a gimme: The Godfather and The Godfather Part II are going to be in The Canon. But is this a Canon that only includes those two films, or is there room for Part III as well? Does The Godfather Trilogy belong in the Canon as a whole?
Arguing in the affirmative is Karina Longworth, film critic and historian and creator of the awesome podcast You Must Remember This. This one finds Amy and I really going back and forth on the issue, as Karina raises a lot of great points about Part III, and we really dig into whether or not the larger, outside the cinema story of Part III is a valuable part of its status. I liked this discussion a whole bunch.
What does this mean for you? It means you should go here and vote on whether the Canon includes only The Godfather and The Godfather Part II or if Part III gets the nod as well - a two part Godfather Canon or three?
Next week it's more Italians with Saturday Night Fever. After that we're trying to schedule a guest to bring us our first horror episode - that should be good! As always, please subscribe, rate us and review us on iTunes or your favorite podcasting app. And share the show with your friends!
