About These Goddamn Mobile Pop-Up Ads
If you're reading this on your phone you probably had to close a pop up ad before getting to the text. You probably have to do that on every single page of this site. And that sucks. It's not supposed to be that way.
First I want to apologize to you guys for this. Reader experience is important to me - I want you to be able to actually get to the content on this site easily and to be able to read it easily. What's the point of busting our asses to have good writing/insight/analysis if you can't even read it? So the ads offend me on a deep level - and they irritate me personally because I also often access the site from my phone.
We want an ad solution that allows us to make some money from this. And I'll be honest - i want to make more money, because I want to be able to hire more writers (and I want to hire writers, and I want to pay our current writers more because they're worth more). But I don't want to do this at the expense of your reading experience. This latest hiccup with the ad system is weird, and I don't fully understand it - we should only be serving you ONE pop up a day on mobile - and apparently fixing it is a little bit of a pain in the butt on the current system.
So we're going to get rid of the current system. And we're going to change a couple of things. In fact, we're going to make some pretty big changes in the next few days. I'm really excited about them, and we've been planning them behind the scenes for over a year. The upside to this: deal with the shitty mobile ads for a couple more days and then they should be a thing of the past (for a while. In my experience with web publishing ads are always a problem and fixing them is, frankly, a game of whack-a-mole).
Thank you for your patience for the rest of the week. And get excited. There's a new era about to dawn, and nothing's going to be the same around here.
