You've seen Young Sherlock Holmes, now get ready for Old Sherlock Holmes. The great detective's golden years have long been a source of fascination for fans and non-canonical writers, but there has never been a film about elderly Sherlock that has the pedigree of Mr. Holmes. Ian McKellen stars as the detective in 1947, bemused by his own legend and wondering about this new nuclear world. The film is directed by Bill Condon, who previously directed McKellen to a career high in Gods & Monsters, another movie about an old great having a relationship with a young person... although that relationship was (we hope) very different from what we see in Mr. Holmes.
The movie is out July 17th; I can't wait for it.
