Ant-Man Will Appear In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR
Way back in November I told you guys some stuff about Captain America: Civil War, including the fact that in-house they were calling it Avengers 2.5. It's certainly becoming more and more clear that the film is going to be jam-packed with Marvel superheroes, and today's start of shooting announcement added one more to the mix: Ant-Man.
From today's press release:
After his debut in Marvel’s “Ant-Man” on July 17, 2015, Paul Rudd (“Ant-Man,” ”Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues”) will make his first appearance alongside the Avengers as Scott Lang/Ant-Man in “Captain America: Civil War.”
That sort of makes it sound like joins The Avengers, but I'm not quite sure.
The press release includes a new synopsis of the movie as well:
“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
That villain is the classic Captain America villain Baron Zemo, played by Daniel Brühl. He's joining a huge cast that looks like this:
Captain America - Chris Evans
Iron Man - Robert Downey Jr
The Falcon - Anthony Mackie
Black Widow - Scarlett Johansson
War Machine - Don Cheadle
Hawkeye- Jeremy Renner
Scarlet Witch - Elizabeth Olsen
The Vision - Paul Bettany
The Winter Soldier - Sebastien Stan
Agent 13 - Emily VanCamp
Black Panther - Chadwick Boseman
General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross - William Hurt
Crossbones - Frank Grillo
Everett K Ross? - Martin Freeman
Holy crap that's a huge cast. And it gets me excited. I wonder how much screentime some of these characters will have; I kind of suspect that a lot of The Avengers turn against Cap, leaving him with his basic Winter Soldier team of Falcon and Widow. How will Ant-Man play into it? It could very easily be a cameo by Rudd; I don't know that Ant-Man ends in a place where he's ready to actually join the team, no matter what the press release says. Perhaps Cap and friends have to turn to Ant-Man for some heist business - that would be amazingly cool.
