So you want to make a biopic of Jimi Hendrix, but you can’t get the rights to any of his music. What do you do? If you’re the makers of Jimi: All is By My Side (the one starring Andre Benjamin), you go for it anyway. If you’re Legendary Entertainment, you wait.
That wait has paid off as Jimi Hendrix’s songs are now up for grabs, and Legendary is going for it. Not only are they going for it, but they are in negotiations to go for it with non other than Paul Greengrass, a name that automatically legitimizes the project.
No one is currently up for the Hendrix role, though Anthony Mackie used to be the big name attached to the project. 8 Mile and The Fighter’s Scott Silver will write the script. If this happens with Greengrass, it will likely happen after his new Bourne film, so we have some time.
