If you're a woman of a certain age (or a very, very cool man), you probably love The Craft. Not because it's a particularly well-made film, but because you were moody and angsty and super into witches in high school, and Robin Tunney made you feel like you were not alone, and that it's completely normal and great to be super into witches. (It is. Witches aren't just for high school girls. They're for ALL OF US.) I could explain further how this film affected an entire generation of teen girls, but Britt already did a perfect job of that.
It's funny that The Craft spoke to so many teenage girls, because it was written and directed by two grown-ass men. So I think the time has definitely come for a new generation of broody witchlettes to be inspired by the guardians of the watchtowers of the north, with Wiccan goddess Leigh Janiak at the helm as both writer and director. (Legal disclaimer: I have no idea if Janiak is a Wiccan goddess. Seems likely, however.)
Janiak's Honeymoon is an incredibly assured debut feature, and she's a great choice for this project. Imagine if The Craft remake is actually totally bitchin', you guys? I THINK IT JUST MIGHT BE. After all: Now is the time. This is the hour. Ours is the magic. Ours is the power.
