Mashups. Mashups everywhere. They're a dime a dozen, and nine times out of ten, they're poorly cobbled-together, ill-advised, and unoriginal. They're so frequently bad, in fact, that when a good one comes along-- as is the case with Steve Ramsden's Grand Budapest Hotel/The Shining hybrid, which you can see below-- it's sort of shocking when you see one that's legitimately awesome.
More of this, please. If you're going to smoosh together two seemingly disparate films into a YouTube career-launching megahit, look to Ramsden's clip as an example. Tell a story. Make sure your edits line up (and that they make sense). Recontextualize dialogue in unexpected and genuinely clever ways. Toss a corpse or three in there. I don't know. Make it your own, I'm saying, but make it worth the click.
We thought this one was worth your click. Especially on an otherwise slow news day. Agree or disagree below, folks.
