Some felt The Hunger Games: Mockingly Part 1 sidelined Katniss too much for a story about propaganda when what they really wanted was war war war. Those folks should be pretty happy with what we’re going to get later this year with Mockingjay Part 2 based on the trailer Lionsgate showed today in Hall H. It’s pretty much all war all the time.
I don’t know exactly how long this trailer ran or when everyone else will get to see it, but nearly every shot in it involves either stuff blowing up, Katniss fully embracing her role as a revolutionary leader, or light exposition about this big, massively booby-trapped city she and her crew have to get through.
About this city. Having not read the books, I had no idea about this plot point, but what a great idea. We get to see a digital scan of the city filled with a ton of red (or orange, I don’t know) dots, each one a deadly trap. The trailer then shows some of these traps in action as Katniss disarms/runs away from them. In addition to this extreme badassery, we also get to see quick flashes of some fucking monsters. Why didn’t any of you book readers tell me about the fucking monsters?
Seriously, this movie is going to be big and full of everything people felt the last film (which I really enjoyed) lacked. When the trailer does finally come out, I think people are going to freak out about how much of it focuses on action and the personal beef between Katniss and Snow.
