SDCC: SUPERGIRL Adds Peter Facinelli As Maxwell Lord
The final panel of last night's DC TV presentation in Hall H brought the cast and creators of CBS' upcoming series Supergirl: Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, Geoff Johns, Ali Adler, Sarah Schechter, Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh, Mehcad Brooks, David Harewood and Jeremy Jordan.
AND a special guest came out unexpectedly: Twilight's (and, more to the point, Can't Hardly Wait's) Peter Facinelli arrived to announce that he'd be taking on the role of Maxwell Lord. We also learned that Reactron and Livewire will be introduced in the first season, but no word on casting for those roles.
Other quotes from the panel:
When asked "Why Supergirl?", Berlanti responded, "It's time, isn't it?" Huge cheers from the audience.
Schechter said of the gender angle, "You'll come in and see her as a girl, and you'll leave and see her as a superhero. Her gender doesn't really matter. She's a badass."
Kreisberg, celebrating Sean Cossey and Lyndsey Baldasare, the casting directors behind Supergirl, Arrow and The Flash, said that Benoist was the first person of thousands they saw as Supergirl...and that Stephen Amell was the first person they saw for Oliver Queen, and Grant Gustin was the first person they saw for Barry Allen. First time's a charm for these shows!
They also showed the pilot on the giant Hall H screens, rounding out the presentation, so look for my review later. Read my write-ups of the Arrow panel here, The Flash panel here and the Legends of Tomorrow panel here.
