Some ideas are so bad they’re good. Some bad ideas have such strong vision behind them that they end up pulling out a legitimate win against all odds. Some ideas just suck, and nothing can save them.
I’m not sure where this idea of Disney making a live-action prequel to Aladdin called Genies ends up on the spectrum. But it’s certainly on the goddamn spectrum.
As you may have figured from the title, Genies will tell the story of how the genie from Aladdin became a genie. He, um, won’t be played by Robin Williams.
Genies is being written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who you might know from stuff like Freddy vs. Jason. If the film does well, we should also look forward to a live-action Aladdin movie.
As for now, nothing else is set in stone. There’s no director or anything like that. But if you wish really hard and rub every lamp-shaped thing in your house, maybe it’ll go to Wes Anderson.
