After an outstanding first trailer, Alejandro González Iñárritu's Birdman went on to divide audiences far more than anyone anticipated. Debate still rages as to whether or not the film was worthy of the hype it generated (or the four Oscars it won). Now we've got the first trailer for Iñárritu's The Revenant, and...well, maybe we'll see history repeat itself. Let's take a look:
The Revenant looks ambitious as all hell. It's beautifully photographed (entirely via natural light, if I'm not mistaken), meticulously choreographed (look at that battle sequence in the forest!), and features what I suspect will end up being yet another in a long line of excellent performances from lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio. It looks like it'll be fantastic. I remember thinking all of these things about Birdman, and I tell myself I should probably keep my hype-levels in check. I'm having a hard time doing that, though, because holy shit just look at this thing.
The Revenant opens Christmas Day. If you're anything like me, you're gonna double-feature it with The Hateful Eight.
