I’m so accustomed to Mads Mikkelsen giving me the creeps that I’m not sure how to handle him giving me the giggles. Nevertheless, I think that’s what he’s trying to do in this trailer for Men & Chicken:
I say “I think” because who knows? It’s almost too gross and weird to laugh at. All those chickens and harelips. Maybe it’s all really a huge drama about the origins of our personalities and souls!
The story is about two brothers who discover the man who raised them was not their real father. As they search out their actual dad, they discover three other fellas who appear to be their brothers as well (harelips). And then everything gets wacky. Well, everything already looked pretty wacky, but it appears to get wackier.
Men & Chicken will have its North American premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, and I’m already jealous of anyone who gets to see it. There’s something wonderful about Mads’ normally composed face twisted into something that wouldn’t be out of place in a Coen Brothers film. That’s worth seeing whether the film is good or not, though it does look like Men & Chicken will in the very least offer something memorable and different.
