Sony recently announced release dates for Bad Boys 3 and 4, but while that shows some confidence that those movies will actually hit theaters, it certainly doesn’t mean they will automatically feature Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in their roles as Riggs and Murtaugh.
Today, a THR profile on Sony head honcho Tom Rothman reveals that Will Smith will be involved in the films in some capacity. We just don’t know which capacity. He may star; he may just produce. He may just watch. The same goes for Martin Lawrence, but no one asked.
This feels kind of like Will Smith waiting to see what happens with his upcoming ensemble film, Suicide Squad before committing to sequels to past glories. It also feels like no one has any idea what’s going on with these new Bad Boys movies past the fact that there will be more Bad Boys movies. They could star The Rock and Samuel L. Jackson. Not one person would complain.
