Looks Like WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS Is Getting A Sequel
Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement's What We Do In The Shadows isn't just one of the year's funniest movies: it's also one of the year's best movies, a loving roast of classic (and modern!) vampire mythology that's worth every ounce of hype and praise it's generated since arriving back in February*. This is one of those movies where, if a friend tells you they didn't like it, you're kinda forced to question how much of a friend that person really is (to be clear: such a person is definitely not your friend). It's a nearly perfect film.
In fact, if there's a legitimate complaint to be lodged against What We Do In The Shadows, it's that there's simply isn't enough of it. The film packs an incredible amount of excellent material - quality gags, heart, and a delightful amount of gore - into its 85-minute run-time, and watching it leaves one with the distinct impression that there was plenty more to do with these characters.
Lucky for us, Clement and Waititi seem to agree: while running the press gauntlet for his forthcoming rom-com, People Places Things, Clement confirmed to the Seattle Times that a sequel is in the works. Furthermore, their report confirms the rumor we've been hearing for some time - that the sequel will focus on What We Do In The Shadows' crew of surprisingly polite werewolves (see clip below). This is great news!
We'll be keeping our ear to the ground for more on this one, so stay tuned. In the meantime, be aware that you can get What We Do In The Shadows for just $.99 on iTunes right now. If you haven't already seen it, we strongly suggest you give it a whirl.
* = In the States, that is. What We Do In The Shadows opened elsewhere the summer before, a fact I'm only clarifying here for the benefit of anyone itching to get pedantic in the comments section.
