You'll have a lot of choices when it comes to seeing Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and if you live near an IMAX screen that will definitely be one of them. The movie will be bumrushing every single IMAX screen in America, and it will stay there for a solid month. Sorry, in the Heart of the Sea and The Revenant, no IMAX for you.
This should certainly boost the already guaranteed high box office of The Force Awakens, as it did when The Hobbit movies made a similar deal. And if The Force Awakens is a box office juggernaut it could continue to dominate the large format screens well beyond the four week window - IMAX hasn't booked another film until The Finest Hours at the end of January... and that's a Disney movie, and I suspect Disney would allow The Force Awakens to keep raking in IMAX cash at the expense of what is, frankly, a weak looking sea rescue picture.
The question you have now is when you see The Force Awakens in IMAX - is it your first choice or do you save it for the second or third time?
