It’s hard to make a good mash-up, but when those things are good, they tend to be really good. Hell’s Club from a couple of weeks ago was one such recent video, and it appears the too-much-time-on-their-hands contingent of the Internet are on a bit of a roll with this next one:
What this one really gets right that most mash-ups don’t is the editing. It’s more than just random dance scenes strung together to Uptown Funk (though to be fair, I’d watch anything set to Uptown Funk). In fact, it’s a fairly well thought-out video. The matching cuts certainly work, and I can’t imagine how much research would’ve gone into finding each and every one of them, but more than anything, I’m impressed with the shot selection. It’s easy to find two similar movements and cut them together, but to constantly keep an eye on everything from the point of focus in the frame to the shot size? That’s dedication, and it yields an impressively smooth and enjoyable 5 minute montage.
It has everything from Singin’ In The Rain to Shrek. Everyone from John Travolta to Jean Dujardin. Movies by Tarantino, the Coen Brothers, and even M. Night Shyamalan. It manages to make good use of Spider-Man 3 (yes, that scene), and even the Ewoks get to make an appearance! From comedies and musicals, to sci-fi and action, this is a fun video that celebrates dance and movement in cinema, and I wish there were more like it.
