Rupert Wyatt Walks Away From Channing Tatum’s GAMBIT Movie

That crazy Cajun needs a new boss.

One of the better things Channing Tatum’s Gambit movie had going for it was the involvement of Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt. Now that draw no longer exists.

THR reports that Wyatt has left the project. Apparently script issues (or a desire to have a shooting schedule that takes advantage of Mardi Gras - it’s a little confusing) have pushed the start date to a time that conflicts with Wyatt’s schedule. There could be some less neutral reason for this, but the public version of the split is amicable:

"I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project," said Wyatt in a statement. "I thank them for the opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film."

The film will now have to get a new director while also figuring out all these script and scheduling issues. Sadly, you cannot solve these problems just by blowing them up with charged playing cards or speaking in a cool accent.
