We’ve been hearing rumors about who will direct the next Fast and Furious film, but none of them have held much water yet, probably because they all seem to stem from Vin Diesel’s dream journal, which is why the two big names so far have been Rob Cohen and “Future PUSA: Me, Vin Diesel”.
But now we finally have a name to take seriously. According to The Wrap, F. Gary Gray, director of Straight Outta Compton but also more F&F-appropriate stuff like The Italian Job and A Man Apart, is a frontrunner to direct the film. There’s one other unnamed director who could get the job (his name is probably Future PUSA: Vin Diesel), but for right now Gray is the only candidate we know for sure.
Gray’s action chops so far aren’t as refined as James Wan’s or Justine Lin’s but that doesn’t mean he can’t knock this out of the park if given the chance. Plus he would definitely keep the Fast and Furious franchise rocking as one of the most diverse series out there. I’m leery but want to believe. What do you think?
