If you liked Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, this is probably going to bum you out. If you’re one of the “cool kids” who only enjoys good movies that everyone else tells you to like, you probably won’t care.
According to Deadline, the sequel to 2013’s Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, which was to be directed by Bruno Aveillan, has been scrapped. This probably won’t surprise anyone since, in America anyway, the film was perceived as a failure.
But they’re not doing away with a second movie because of that. Instead, the idea is to make it a TV series instead. This significantly hurts the chances of a return from Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton.
To be honest, while I do enjoy the first movie, I never had much hope any of that goofy magic would find a way into a sequel. It’s even less likely with a TV show. On the other hand, that gives the property a good opportunity to grow into its own thing. If the show ends up being any good, I promise to give it a shot six years too late.
