Pieter Van Hees is directing a Lizzie Borden movie to be written by Bryce Kass. Since you probably don’t know who those people are, let’s focus on the cast!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart have joined the still untitled project. Sevigny will play Borden, while Stewart is in early negotiations to play the Bordens’ maid, Bridget Sullivan, who testified at Lizzie’s trail and plays a significant role in some ye olde Lizzie Borden fan theories.
For those who don’t know the story, Lizzie Borden was arrested and later acquitted for axe-murdering her parents like crazy. Lizzie may not have done the axing in reality, but history mostly enjoys assuming she did. Whoever did it really went nuts with that axe, though. The mom, for instance, was axed in the back of the head nineteen times, and that’s after a headshot that put her on the ground in the first place.
We’ll just have to wait and see which version of the events the film goes with. One theory proposes that Borden and Sullivan were lovers, an angle I imagine would be hard to pass up.
