Ridley Scott begins filming the sequel to his prequel, Prometheus 2, early next year. And while that all seems pretty solid at this point, we’re still having trouble getting an actual title for the film.
Until recently, we were calling the film Alien: Paradise Lost. This was an interesting title since it traded the Prometheus name for Alien, even though it’s likely to have more in common with the former than the latter. The Paradise Lost bit also aligned it with John Milton’s amazing poem about the fall of Adam and Eve, giving us another clue about what we are in for.
But now, as you can see from the graphic above, the film has a new title: Alien: Covenant. A covenant is an agreement. In religious terms, it refers to an agreement between God and us losers. Factoring all that in, this is a much more optimistic title! Perhaps this’ll be the movie where we finally bro-down over egg whites and protein shakes with those albino bodybuilders.
Prometheus was a mess, but it was an interesting mess. I can’t help but get a little excited for whatever madness Ridley Scott has planned next for this weird saga.
