LORD OF THE RINGS’ Philippa Boyens To Adapt T.A. Barron’s THE MERLIN SAGA

It’s not a movie; it’s a whole damn saga.

Boy, those of you who always wanted a big origin story for the famed wizard Merlin are in luck. Disney’s got your back with an adaptation of TA Barron’s The Merlin Saga, a twelve-book series that tells Merlin’s story all the way from when he was a wee little boy to, well there are twelve books. I’m sure he gets a beard and a robe at some point.

This has been in the works for a while, previously with John Zinman and Patrick Masset writing. That is no longer the case. Now, according to Deadline, scripting duties will fall upon Philippa Boyens, whose name you might know from her collaborations with Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh.

So far, this is just an adaptation of Merlin’s first big story, in which a very young Merlin washes onto some random shore with no memories of who he is or why he’s such a magical badass. I imagine they’ll get to every damn one of them if it’s a hit, and we’ll be stuck in Merlin City for the rest of our lives.
