The Canon Episode 53: AMERICAN BEAUTY

Look closer at this Oscar winner.

As we enter awards season The Canon takes a look back at an Oscar winner that may not have aged that well at all. 1999's American Beauty felt important at the time, but just two years later 9/11 happened and many of the film's thoughts about suffocating suburbia seemed passe at best. Does American Beauty still have something to say, or is it an embarrassing relic of a previous America? Amy and I take on Sam Mendes' motion picture directorial debut and maybe spend too much time discussing films in which underage women are legally shown naked.
