Last night a great mystery arrived at our doorsteps: what the fuck is 10 Cloverfield Lane? Obviously, it is a movie, but is this JJ Abrams-produced film a sequel to Cloverfield? Who knows! I have a feeling even after the movie comes out we still won’t know!
The mystery arrived via a trailer that ran in front of Michael Bay’s 13 Hours. Almost immediately there was a bootleg version on YouTube. Now we have an official version for us all to watch and try to figure out:
Here is the deal - do not think of this as a Cloverfield sequel. They are certainly baiting the mystery with that hook, but my advice is to ignore it. Focus instead on what looks like a small, contained story about captivity, mind control, and playing boardgames. Because that movie actually looks intriguing enough all by itself. If you come to this, whatever it is, expecting awesome giant monster action, you will likely end up very disappointed. Cloverfield burnt me. I’m not falling for this stuff again. Even JJ Abrams describes this as only a “blood relative” to Cloverfield. That could just mean there's a part where John Goodman drinks Slusho!.
The good thing is this movie we’ve never heard of until now is coming out fairly soon. Its release date is March 11. Of this year. So we don’t have to worry about it for very long. Also, here’s a poster:
