In a truly inspired bit of casting, Jackie Earle Haley is joining the first season of AMC's Preacher as Odin Quidcannon. You know, the guy who...
...wait, what's our policy on Preacher spoilers? The books have been out forever; surely anyone interested enough would have picked them up by now, right?
Then again, maybe you're planning to eschew the books entirely, give the show a shot first. In the interest of not being a dick, I'll assume the latter and say: Odin Quidcannon is a very, very strange character, and Jackie Earle Haley's probably going to have a field day with the role. All further character details should be yours to discover.
A few things worth noting, however. For instance: what this development says about the timeline of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's adaptation. Months ago, we heard that Elizabeth Perkins had joined the show as Vyla Quidcannon, which was weird because the Quidcannons' "Salvation" storyline happens roughly forty issues into Preacher's original run. Casting Odin Quidcannon probably just confirms what everyone already suspected, that some storyline shuffling may occur.
Also noteworthy: the extreme weirdness of the Odin Quidcannon character. If they really are folding "Salvation" into the first season of this show - and assuming they capture that storyline's intense freakiness - that speaks volumes about how weird Rogen and Goldberg are willing to go right off the bat. I like that. That makes me feel better about the show, which I'm still mostly not sold on as a great idea.
What do you guys make of this?
