Were it not for the all-timer review Devin filed for San Andreas last year, I would almost certainly have forgotten the film happened. Never got around to seeing it, never had anyone recommend it, never wondered if I might be missing out. Which means that I'm probably not the guy to be reporting that San Andreas 2 is a thing that appears to be happening:
New Line and Dwayne Johnson want to make the earth move for you one more time.
The company has hired Neil Widener and Gavin James to write a sequel to San Andreas, the Johnson-starring earthquake disaster movie that grossed over $473 million worldwide last year.
Carla Gugino, Paul Giamatti, and Alexandra Daddario are all expected to return, and The Hollywood Reporter says the scope of the sequel is "global", supposedly centering around the Ring Of Fire (which "circles the Pacific Ocean with fault lines and volcanoes and, according to scientists, is home to about 90 percent of the worlds' earthquakes). So this is going to be one of those "more, but bigger" things, with the possible addition of The Rock fighting underwater volcanoes.
...OK, see, now I don't know. "The Rock fighting underwater volcanoes" sounds pretty great. But then, I remember a time where "The Rock fights an earthquake" sounded pretty great, as well. God, we were all so young then. And foolish.
Anyway, we'll keep you updated as this one develops. Be respectful of Daddario in the comments below.
