23 JUMP STREET-MEN IN BLACK Crossover Continues Not Being A Joke

Now a for-real director is in the mix.

We live in strange times. In a few weeks, we’ll get to see Batman fight Superman. Not much later, we’ll meet the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man. And movies that start out as jokes one day can be real-deals the next.

Case in point, a crossover between the 21 Jump Street series and, for some reason, Men in Black. According to Variety, this is still a thing. Right now Sony is in early talks with The Muppets and Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass director James Bobin to direct the film.

This means Phil Lord and Chris Miller won’t be all that involved. Even more bad news, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones won’t be in the film. Instead, Sony's going to go for younger Men in Black agents.

Some of this stuff was already known. The existence of this idea became public with the big Sony hack, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be thrown away, I guess. Sony still hasn’t greenlit the film, but Variety claims they’re hoping for a June production start date, which seems pretty soon. As long as Ice Cube shows up, I’m good.
