Steven Spielberg Digs Up An Old Relic For INDIANA JONES 5 In 2019

Nobody's sure why.

Mark your calendars: July 19, 2019 sees the return of Indiana Jones to the big screen with the as-yet-untitled Indiana Jones 5. Steven Spielberg will be directing and Harrison Ford will be starring. We know nothing else.

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios, in a press release. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

Ford will be about 75 when they start shooting. The series itself will be almost 40.

What to make of this? Ford was pretty good in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but I was happy they killed off Han Solo - he just didn't have the same twinkle in his eye as he did in the 80s. And as we already saw with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Indy has a hard time transitioning to the CGI present, and Ford was a little haggard in that jacket and hat. It wasn't peak Indy by anybody's estimation.

Maybe there's a great story idea here. Maybe the saga will come to a rousing finish in a way that will satisfy all the fans. Or maybe it should be left well enough alone. From where I'm sitting it feels like it should be left well enough alone. Please prove me wrong, guys.
