We haven’t had a Ben-Hur movie since 1959. The one before that came out in 1925. Obviously we are due for a remake, and Timur Bekmambetov, director of Wanted, the Night Watch trilogy, and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, thinks he’s the man for the job.
That remains to be seen. What doesn’t remain to be seen is how Jack Huston and Morgan Freeman will look in the film:
I have to admit, I am curious to see how this biblical epic will translate to the modern era. I assume it’ll focus on orange and teal, speed-ramped chariot races more than anything else. That picture will probably get more clear when a trailer arrives, which I bet will be soon.
Ben-Hur comes out August 12. It’s a total summer movie.
