BEN-HUR Trailer Promises Epic Fucking Win Of The Christ

The first trailer for Ben-Hur lays it all on the table - this is a big action spectacle. Not that previous versions aren't; pretty much all anybody remembers about the first Ben-Hur - the silent one - is the scale of the chariot race. And the Charlton Heston one is known for its chariot race and also blazing homoerotic subtext. It makes sense that a new version of Ben-Hur would up the spectacle ante in its own, modern and computer-enhanced way. 

I guess it looks okay? The trailer is selling the revenge angle very hard, trying to turn this into Gladiator. The revenge angle has always been in the story - the whole premise is that Jesus Christ turns Judah Ben-Hur away from a path of hate - but this trailer really plays it up. 

It also plays up how astonishingly generic this looks. You could cut the CGI footage from this movie together with stuff from any of the other recent sword and sandal films and it would match. Director Timur Bekmambetov seems to have subsumed his (over-the-top, often incoherent) style into a paint-by-numbers CGI recreation of the Ancient World. 

I wonder how gay this version will be. How many longing looks will Jack Huston and Toby Kebbell share in this film?
