Here's an interesting development: Will Forte will play National Lampoon co-founder Doug Kenney in a biopic being directed by David Wain. Bonus: all signs point to the movie heading straight to Netflix, so you'll be able to enjoy the film from the comfort of your very own margarita pool.
Wain's film, A Futile And Stupid Gesture, is based on Josh Karp's 2006 book of the same name. Doug Kenney (pictured below) started his career as editor of the Harvard Lampoon before co-founding the wildly influential National Lampoon in 1970. In the years that followed, Kenney's publication left its mark all over the American comedy landscape, launching the careers of John Belushi and John Hughes, eventually breaking into Hollywood (without the Lampoon, there'd be no Animal House, Caddyshack, or Vacation), and - as was customary at the time - leading Kenney down a dark path that included drug and alcohol addiction.
Interesting dude, interesting story, and with Wain directing Forte it's likely that A Futile And Stupid Gesture will be something special. All deals are being finalized as we speak, but count on updates on this one as they occur. We're excited about it!
