According to a new interview over at Collider, contractual obligations have resulted in Tommy Wiseau shooting a cameo for The Disaster Artist, James Franco's upcoming film about the making of The Room. Sounds about right.
I’m editing it now. It turned out great. I play Tommy Wiseau, my brother plays Greg Sestero, the other actor in The Room. Tommy was involved; contractually we had to give him a cameo opposite me, which was very weird because I was playing him. I don’t know if that’ll end up in the movie or not, but it was a surreal experience to say the least
The Disaster Artist, as you know, is an adaptation of Greg Sesteros' book of the same name, and will tell the sure-to-be-bananas story of how The Room got made. James Franco's playing The Room director Tommy Wiseau, Dave Franco's playing Sesteros, Sharon Stone's playing Iris Burton, and a whole bunch of other people - Bryan Cranston, Alison Brie, Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Kate Upton, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, to name just a few - are filling out the rest of the cast.
Say what you will about The Room (for instance: "It was funny the first time, but has long-since reached Gangam Style-levels of overexposure"), and say what you will about Wiseau (for instance: "He seems like a gigantic asshole who probably shouldn't be revered, even ironically"), but I'm into The Disaster Artist. It's hard to deny what a spectacle this thing is going to be, particularly with that cast. Who knows? Maybe this'll even make The Room worth revisiting.
If they're editing now, we'll probably see a trailer sooner rather than later. Can't wait.
