Are The X-MEN Films Pissing Away Dazzler As An Easter Egg?

It certainly looks like it.

There's one thing you can count on from an X-Men movie, and that's burning off interesting characters as glorified cameos. It's like the whole thing these movies do, just throw a bunch of mutants at the screen and not give any of them enough time to truly register. WIth that in mind it should come as no surprise that X-Men: Apocalypse will be doing that with one of the more cinematic mutants, Dazzler, as evidenced by this picture shared by Sophie Turner, who plays Jean Grey this time around:

Dazzler, for the uninitiated, is a mutant who can turn sound energy into light energy. Normally she uses this power in her day job - she's a pop star - but she can also use it in combat. A fierce pop princess joining the X-Men? That would be very cool and very fun. It probably isn't happening.

What makes this interesting is that Turner has tagged Taylor Swift in the photo, and there was a rumor that Swift would appear in the movie as Dazzler. Producer Simon Kinberg debunked that rumor last year. Turner likes to fuck around on social media, to be fair, so maybe she's doing that again. Or maybe Swift recorded a song for Dazzler or recorded some small piece of TV footage for the movie.

Either way: it's a cameo! And that's a bummer. Dazzler, who was once a herald of Galactus, deserves better. The studio could cast a for real pop star in the role. The studio could have the pop star record a full, for real album. Imagine the fun possibilities.

I guess not all hope is lost: Tye Sheridan, who is playing Cyclops, has signed on for three films. The most recent trilogy has had each film set ten years after the last (although you wouldn't know it by looking at the unaging leads), but if young Sheridan is gonna play Cyke twice more they cannot possibly leap to the 90s. That means the next film is planned to take place shortly after the events of this one, which leaves the door open for Dazzler, already famous, to join the team.

But that would require Fox to do something good with these films, so I'm not holding my breath.
