Yesterday, Star Wars: Episode VIII director Rian Johnson posted two new set photos to his Tumblr page.
Let's have a look.
For starters, both photos are accompanied by the following caption:
"Good. Bad. I’m the guy with the microfiber sham. I can’t believe we’re halfway through the shoot. (We’re halfway through the shoot!)".
So you've got what appears to be an Imperial Gunner on the left, plus a character we've not seen before in the Star Wars universe: Greg, the microfiber sham guy. If we take Johnson's caption at face value, Greg will be neither hero nor villain. Greg's just a guy eking out a living in a galaxy far, far away, doing what he can with what he's got. I'm excited to learn more about Greg.
Now let's look at this other photo.
Well, now I don't know what to think. That's not Greg. Greg has a luxurious head of hair. Greg doesn't wear Polos. Who is this impostor?
And here's an even better question: who's that handsome devil piloting the X-Wing? The Birth.Movies.Death. staff has its suspicions, but - despite our best efforts - we can't confirm anything at this time, because apparently some people take their NDAs way too seriously once they become big-time Hollywood hotshots. Whatever.
Also there appears to be a droid of some sort chilling in the back of Mysterious Handsome Pilot's X-Wing. It does not appear to be an R2 unit. Anyone have any guesses what it might be?
